How does the solar battery rebate in Queensland work?
Despite often being called a solar battery rebate, the incentive is actually delivered through Australia’s Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme.
In simple terms, eligible battery installations generate Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs), which can translate into an upfront discount through your retailer or installer.
For most homeowners, that means less paperwork and a lower upfront price.
How much could you actually save?
There isn’t one fixed dollar amount.
Your battery rebate in QLD depends on factors including the battery’s usable capacity and when it is installed.
In 2026, the program aims to provide a discount of around 30% across a range of eligible battery sizes.
However, the incentive reduces over time, so the discount available today may not be the same in the future.
Are you eligible?
For the federal battery rebate in Australia, a few key requirements apply.
Your battery must:
● have a nominal capacity between 5 kWh and 100 kWh;
● be connected to a new or existing eligible solar PV system;
● use an approved battery system; and
● be installed by an appropriately accredited installer.
One important detail: a battery that only stores electricity from the grid, without solar PV, isn’t eligible.

Since May 2026, the incentive has been structured so that support tapers as battery capacity increases.
